Elisa Johns

Elisa Johns is a Los Angeles based painter. She received her MFA from the Claremont Graduate University, and my BA from the University of California, San Diego. She has exhibited across the United States, and in Europe. Her most recent solo shows include Roam at Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York and Kings Canyon at Ochi Gallery in Los Angeles. She has received critical acclaim from publications including Art in America, White Hot Magazine and Beautiful/ Decay magazine.

Johns’s work contemplates landscape as muse and narrative mechanism. From expansive mountain ranges to delicate wildflowers, Johns explores the narrative elements of nature.  The rugged landscape also becomes a setting for mythical tales. Johns references powerful historical and mythological women in her work.  Johns vast landscapes are both contemplative and reverential. The large open spaces within her canvases form dream-like landscapes of an epic fantasy. Both haunting and lyrical, Johns’ delves deep into the sublime of the western high sierra landscape.
