Katie Heffelfinger
New York-based painter Katie Heffelfinger’s creates multi-media watercolors inspired by the art of Australian Aboriginal artists, city Dorothy Napangardi and her sisters as her primary influences. Her work strives to echo their ability to create a visual language from the sparse yet striking visual and natural elements that define life and cosmology in the Outback. From this point, Katie’s work dives into the psychology of pattern, wherein the range of watercolor washes and application of heavy duty latex paint as a resist express a range of elegant, earthly abstraction.
